When I’m not in the lab or classroom, I enjoy playing guitar and piano, attending concerts, hiking, snowboarding, and rooting for the Chicago Cubs and Bears. Most importantly, I love spending time with my family and our dogs, and watching movies whenever I get the chance.

Research
The Tobiansky Lab of Neuroendocrine Ethology investigates the neuroendocrine mechanisms and physiological adaptations underlying complex social and extreme behaviors. We take a highly comparative approach, focusing largely on avian species, to understand how the brain and body communicate to produce intricate actions and withstand intense physical stress. One major arm of our research focuses on neurotrauma and resilience. By studying woodpeckers—which engage in repeated, high-impact head collisions during territorial displays—we explore the transcriptomic and physiological adaptations within the meninges and associated vasculature that protect their brains. We hope to apply these evolutionary insights toward mitigating traumatic brain injury and neurodegeneration in humans.
